What the Iraqi streets are telling Tehran
Iraq has hosted Iranian-aligned funeral corteges before, and the visual vocabulary is familiar: black-draped vehicles, reciters of lamentation, mass prayer rows aligned to shrines in Karbala and Kadhimiya. The substance, though, is the venue. The obvious alternative reading is that the scale is smaller than the broadcast suggests. What survives that skepticism is still significant. Two of the four items in this cluster refer to "martyred Imam's family" members — language that in Iranian state media sometimes signals a member of the Supreme Leader's household staff rather than a cleric with formal religious rank. Other reporting outlets have not been independently verified against these Telegram frames in the time window of this article, and the claims around funeral attendance, the size of the crowds, and the chain of shrines visited cannot yet be checked against wire-service footage.
