Iran Claims Drone Boat Attack and Missile Hits in Hormuz Posts
Iranian state-linked Telegram posts on 5 and 6 September 2026 claim IRGC forces attacked a US unmanned vessel, fired ballistic missiles at US warships, and released interception footage from the Strait of Hormuz.

On 6 September 2026 at 02:15 UTC, a Press TV Telegram post reported that Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps said it had attacked a US unmanned surface vessel attempting to enter what it called the protected zone of the Strait of Hormuz. Within the next hour, related posts claimed ballistic missile strikes on a US aircraft carrier and destroyer, and the targeting of a US military drone in the same waterway. The sequence turns a familiar chokepoint dispute into competing claims about uncrewed systems, missile strikes, and video releases.
The core of the story is narrow, and it should stay that way. According to Iranian state media relayed on Telegram, the IRGC Navy and the IRGC Aerospace Force carried out retaliatory strikes against US-linked vessels and US naval assets near the Strait of Hormuz on 5 and 6 September 2026. Those claims are attributed to Iranian accounts in the captured posts, and this article reports what those accounts said.
The uncrewed incident at the center
The most technology specific claim concerns an unmanned surface vessel, described in different posts as a USV, a drone-boat, and a US Navy unmanned surface vessel attempting to cross or enter the Strait of Hormuz. A Press TV post dated 6 September 2026 at 02:15 UTC said the IRGC attacked the craft while it was attempting to enter the protected zone, and warned that any move by the enemy was under watch and would be decisively targeted.
Two other Telegram relays describe the same type of incident in different wording. A post from the account Intel Slava dated 6 September 2026 at 02:25 UTC said the IRGC Navy announced that it destroyed a US Navy unmanned surface vessel attempting to cross the strait. A post from AMK Mapping dated 6 September 2026 at 02:34 UTC said IRGC naval forces attacked a US drone-boat attempting to enter the protected area of the Strait of Hormuz.
A separate claim involves airspace. A WarFront Witness post dated 6 September 2026 at 02:22 UTC said the IRGC released a statement claiming its naval forces targeted a US military drone attempting to enter what it described as the protected area. That post added that the IRGC said its forces were closely monitoring activity in the waterway and warned further US movements would meet a firm response.
Missiles, tankers and retaliation claims
The uncrewed vessel claims sit inside a broader retaliation narrative. A Press TV post dated 5 September 2026 at 21:30 UTC said the IRGC Navy announced striking three United States-linked vessels and three trespassing oil tankers in retaliation for earlier American attacks on Iranian tankers. A follow-up post at 21:45 UTC on the same date repeated the figure of three US-related vessels and three oil tankers, and warned vessels against choosing unauthorized routes to transit Hormuz.
The missile claim escalated further. A Press TV post dated 5 September 2026 at 22:50 UTC said the IRGC Aerospace Force announced it had attacked, with several ballistic missiles, an aircraft carrier and a destroyer belonging to the US Navy, which it accused of harassing Iranian ships and participating in a naval blockade. The same post claimed the two warships sustained damage, fled the conflict zone, and described what it called CENTCOM acknowledgment as confirming the operation.
A shorter Press TV relay dated 6 September 2026 at 02:30 UTC repeated the claim that the IRGC hit an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer with several ballistic missiles, forcing them to flee the engagement zone. Another Press TV relay dated 6 September 2026 at 03:33 UTC said the Aerospace Force launched several ballistic missiles at a US carrier and destroyer participating in what it called Washington's illegal naval blockade, again claiming the vessels fled. A Clash Report post dated 5 September 2026 at 23:12 UTC summarized the Iranian claim in similar terms, saying the IRGC said the ships were damaged, withdrew, and warned of further responses if hostile actions continue.
Footage releases described by Press TV
A Press TV post dated 5 September 2026 at 21:35 UTC said the IRGC Navy released footage documenting surveillance and interception of violating vessels, warning any suspicious activity would be targeted. A later Press TV post dated 6 September 2026 at 03:20 UTC said the IRGC unveiled previously unreleased footage of decisive action against non-compliant vessels, and presented it as rebutting US allegations of effectively supporting transit through the waterway.
The two footage posts attribute both the video and the interpretation to the IRGC. The earlier post links the footage to surveillance and interception in the Strait of Hormuz. The later post links the footage to action against non-compliant vessels and to a denial of the US allegation about escorting trespassing vessels.
Control language in the Iranian posts
The Iranian posts make the control argument in their own wording. The 02:15 UTC Press TV post on 6 September 2026 reiterated that the strait is under Iranian management and said any movement by the enemy would meet a firm response. The WarFront Witness summary of the IRGC statement said the waterway remains under Iranian control, called on the United States to leave the region, and said naval forces would continue monitoring hostile activity.
The wording differs between attacked and destroyed for the uncrewed craft, and between damaged and forced to flee for the carrier and destroyer claims. Those differences come from separate Telegram relays of Iranian statements dated 5 and 6 September 2026, and point to the limit of what the captured posts establish about effects.
